Settling in Policy
We aim to ensure that your child’s introduction to our setting is as stress free as possible. Once a place has been offered, we aim to achieve this by inviting you and your child to visit the nursery prior to your child’s first official start date. This helps to familiarize your child with the nursery, the nursery staff and the other children. Before settle in sessions can be arranged a full deposit is to be paid to secure your child’s place at the Field of Dreams nursery.
A child who is tense or unhappy will not be able to play or learn properly, so it is important for parents/carers and staff to work together to help the child feel confident and secure in the group. This takes longer for some children and parents/carers should not feel worried if their child takes a while to settle. You must be prepared to accept that it may take some time for your child to adjust to the nursery but very few children fail to settle eventually. We find that staying with your child then leaving him/her for short period’s eases the separation process. Due to Covid 19 and children and families having to endure periods of lockdowns this has had an impact on the transition from home to nursery. Children have spent a lot of time at home with their parents/families with little or no interaction with their peers or Baby and Toddler groups to attend.
It is our policy that all children require a minimum of three settle in sessions though reserve the right to request more to ensure that your child is settled before they enter their full contracted sessions. The week before your Child is due to start at the Field of Dreams Nursery we offer 3 x 1 hour settle in sessions between the hours of 10.00-11.00am & 2.00-3.00pm. The first hour we ask that you stay with your Child in their room speaking to the Key Worker & Staff about your Child. We then ask if your Child can be left for the following 2 hourly sessions to ensure that they are happy and settle without their Parents.
Once your child can attend the nursery for a period of time without their parents a start date will arranged.
